About This Course

Course Code: CHE351

Course Title: Polymer Engineering I

Course Credit: 3

Course Outline:

  • Introduction to polymers

  • Sources of monomers

  • Structure and physical properties of polymers

  • Molecular weights of polymers

This course is usually taken by two lectures. Although there is a recommended textbook for this course, the lectures usually give out their own materials, which are usually summaries of the textbook, with a little addition, and from which most (or all) their exam questions come from. Students are required to study the lectures materials, to understand fundamental concepts, to understand polymerization mechanisms, and calculation of molecular weights of polymers.

Like biochemical engineering, polymer engineering is a very wide branch of chemical engineering, and students who would like to go into materials, plastics, environment, waste management, e.t.c, should pay closer attention here.
